If you’ve ever driven down Mission Street, you may have noticed the large alleyway, next to the Munch Company. That alleyway actually is the home of a business, Bungalow 1026, which held its ribbon cutting during the summer Arts Crawl.
Bungalow 1026 is a skincare oasis that offers clients a full range of services from several types of facials to microdermabrasion, peels, lash & brow tinting and waxing. It’s green surroundings and quaint waterfall gives the courtyard a feeling of separation from the city, especially since it is set inside the alley. Patrons have described the area as a “retreat.” Christopher Watt, owner of the clinic said, “It’s very private, let me put it that way. And people like that.”
So what sets Bungalow 1026 apart from any of the other skincare spas in town? Watt says that he is offering skin care often given at a medi spa, but without the medi spa prices. Watt has been practicing skin care treatment for twenty years and had run a business on the west side for ten years as well as worked with doctors from Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Explains Watt “I just want to bring the best treatments possible to the community at affordable prices.”
During the ribbon cutting, Watt joked that despite being in the community for three years, his ribbon cutting was happening now. When asked, the owner explained that he had held off on the ribbon cutting because he had wanted to wait until he was established and had a sign up. Watt chuckled as he elaborated that he did not even have a drain for the first two years. He was considered a green spa because the water that he used went back to the garden. Although, he clarified, “I finally did get a drain. That was one of my goals, to have my sign up above my gate and to have a drain.”
Chamber President Laurie Wheeler welcomed the gathered crowd which included family, friends, Council Members Bob Joe and Diana Mahmud, Chamber Ambassadors Monica Hong and Sam Hernandez and Mayor Michael Cacciotti. The Mayor congratulated Watt on his official ribbon cutting and thanked him for being a part of the business revitalization in the city. Christian Daly from Kathryn Barger’s office, Evette Kim from Senator Anthony Portantino’s office and Faith Lee from Assemblyman Chris Holden’s office all offered words of congratulations and presented Watt with Certificates of Recognition.
The evening then kicked off with local band Just Us playing in the courtyard giving the proceedings a decidedly New Orleans vibe. Just Us band members included South Pasadenans JonPaul Arciniega on guitar, Andres Arciniega on drums and Tim Franco on bass.
