Recently some of our high school interns stopped in to say goodbye to their mentor, Kevin Nakanishi, before heading off to college. Yuchen Zheng, Jennifer Zhang, and Yuqi Zheng are three exceedingly bright, conscientious young people who came to us through the intern program at SPHS. They worked diligently on everything from market and investigative research to the important work of streamlining and editing our editorial and event calendars, along with many other vital tasks. And, as Nakanishi will attest, always with an incredible attitude and positivity that made them a joy to work with.
Says Nakanishi “they really did everything from processing payments, creating invoices, updating databases, creating spreadsheets and writing for us.” Talking about all the young people we’ve worked with always brings a smile to Nakanishi’s face, “they are all very bright, reliable, creative people and just a pleasure to have in the office. I enjoyed teasing and joking with them to ensure a fun environment amidst the stressful deadlines. They will always be special and I know they will all do incredible things.”
We are so excited about what the future holds for these young people and all that will mean to the future for all of us. Yuchen will be studying biology at UCSB while Yuqi will be studying Actuarial Science also at UCSB. Jennifer will be studying biochemistry at UCSD but tells us she is also considering Neuroscience.
Yuchen, Yuqi and Jennifer know our door is always open to them and they know they can even contribute from where they are as we will be featuring South Pasadenans At Large with features coming in from South Pasadenans on foreign trips as well as on college campuses. We very much look forward to hearing from them and wish them the vest best as they embark on what will surely be a most bright future!
