South Pasadena Fire Dept. officials rushed to the 400 block of Arroyo Drive Friday morning, pulling hose lines up a long driveway, to extinguish a vehicle on fire.
When they arrived at the scene at about 9:30 a.m., firefighters discovered smoke and flames coming from under the hood of a blue 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle pick-up. The vehicle’s owner, John Peralez, said he had been working on the car in a detached garage when it backfired, causing the fire.
Peralez said he was concerned the flames were going to hit the fuel line, but worries of the car exploding were soon laid to rest when firefighters arrived and quickly put out the blaze.
