I have often described South Pasadena as one of the most romantic cities in Southern California. We enjoy quiet evening strolls under light filled trees, beautiful parks and gardens, wine bars, live entertainment and the sexiest Farmers Market in LA.

South Pasadenans, don’t stress out trying to get a dinner reservation in Beverly Hills or booking a suite at the big hotel in the next town over.  I am here to help you have your most memorable, intimate and adventurous Valentine’s date night without leaving our zip code.

Step One: Do It Yourself

Pop into Kidd’s Jewelry Heist and design your true love a piece of jewelry. Choose from a magical buffet of baubles, beads and bling and the shop owners will put your look together for you. Located behind the Dinosaur Farm. Open 3:30-6:00pm on February 14.

Step Two: Shakespeare In Love

Next stop is the South Pasadena Public Library. Go to the English Literature section and check out a copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnets. Sit under the Moreton Bay Fig tree on the West side of the building (thought by some to be the largest tree in the city) or locate a cozy corner inside. Take turns reading your favorites to each other. Just remember to whisper.

Step Three: A Quickie at Crossings

Stroll over to Crossings Restaurant for Happy Hour on their enchanted patio. Order two glasses of prosecco and a plate of oysters to help keep the mood going. Happy Hour until 6pm.

Step Four: A Night at the Theater

Walk hand-in-hand to the Fremont Centre Theatre to see the Broadway favorite “I Love You, You’re Perfect. Now Change.”, a musical comedy about dating, love and marriage. Your tickets include chocolate covered strawberries, champagne and assorted chocolate delights. Visit youngstarstheater.org for tickets. Show runs through February 18.

Step Five:

One Root Beer Float, Two Straws Please

Cruise back up Mission where you and your sweetie can share a root beer float made from all natural ice cream at The Moo on Mission. What better to get close than over a frozen treat? Open until 11pm.

Step Six: Here’s Looking at You Kid

Make Videotheque, your last stop of the night. Peruse their extensive collection of DVD’s and discover romantic classics like Casablanca or An Affair to Remember. Take one home and snuggle up in front of the TV with a nightcap.

If you don’t make it through the movie the credits, wink-wink, don’t worry you can always finish it Thursday right after Farmer’s Market.
